Befriender Volunteers work across a range of services, such as children’s centres, parenting services and Child Sexual Exploitation services, supporting children and their families through challenging times in their lives. Wednesbury Sons of Rest Community Centre, unlike the name suggests, would like to be far from resting! People with a disability tend to face huge barriers to participate in sport and physical activity – from inadequate facilities, to lack of opportunities. Midland Mencap aspire to improve and increase the opportunities and experiences of those with learning disabilities in sport and physical activity, to benefit them physically, socially, and mentally. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us deliver accessible sports sessions across the Midlands. What would I be doing? • Assisting and leading the delivery of sport activities in a fun, inclusive and engaging manner • Helping to create and deliver session plans meeting the needs of the participants • Ensuring the safety of participants, as well as yourself, during sessions • Registering attendance of the participants • Creating positive relationships with citizens, families, carers, and colleagues

parkride is a fun and flexible inclusive cycling project that provides anyone, regardless of age or need, with the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors through cycling, together! You would be: • Supporting children and adults with learning disabilities (including people who have complex needs) and their families/carers to take part in regular community bike rides • Helping to set up before each session and tidying away afterwards • Assisting Midland Mencap staff to deliver fun and engaging parkride sessions • Helping to maintain a fleet of bikes to ensure as many people as possible can take part in cycling sessions • Helping parkride participants to learn the basics of bicycle maintenance

Event Volunteers help to deliver a variety of different events with Midland Mencap, from planning and preparation to setting up and running activities on the day. It’s about offering something fun and memorable for citizens and their family carers. You could be: • Helping to prepare for various events throughout the year – this might involve preparing craft activities, information and signage, displays and activities, moving tables and chairs, putting up gazebos and so on • Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors at events, answering any questions and encouraging people to get involved in the events/activities • Assisting at large scale events such as the Sutton Challenge – this might involve manning the car park, directing participants, providing information, running stalls, assisting with activities and cash handling • Helping to clear up after events - this might involve clearing up after craft activities, taking down signage and displays, packing away tables, chairs, and other equipment, taking down gazebos, litter picking and so on

Would you enjoy empowering children and young people with additional needs to take part in activities and have a fun-filled 4-night residential trip? We are providing a residential trip to Bewdley in Worcestershire to give children and young people with additional needs the chance to spend some time away from home to try out a variety of fun activities. If you are energetic and creative, with brilliant interpersonal skills, and you’re available between 21st – 25th February 2022 we would love to include you in this exciting trip. Please note that this role will involve staying on site for the duration of the residential trip. You would be: • Supporting children and young people with disabilities to take part in activities, join in with communal meals and complete their general day to day tasks. • Encouraging them to try new things and build their confidence and independence. • Promoting an inclusive atmosphere on the residential and making sure the young people have an enjoyable time. • Supervising children and young people during activities and throughout the day.
