We seek volunteer mentors willing to spend one hour, once a week with a young refugee or asylum seeker to help them with their school/college work and learning English. Mentors normally meet their mentee in a public place, such as a library, but we are currently running all mentoring sessions online. You do not need to have any teaching experience but you do need to believe in the power of education to bring hope and transform lives. All mentors complete our interview and training process.

We are looking for helpers who can support a blind or visually impaired person to get out and about, enjoy everyday activities - and have fun! We need volunteers who are confident at explaining things, have patience and empathy, and can spare a little time. Activities could be as simple as going for a walk, shopping, or a gym session. You would be providing one-to-one sighted guide support and social interaction to our members who want to get out and about - assisting with queues, one-way systems and potentially the need to maintain social distance. All activities would comply with the RNIB guidelines and training provided.

Groups include activities such as bowls, gardening, chair based exercises and IT clubs as well as virtual clubs and walking groups (social distancing measures in place). The organisation offers telephone befriending to people who may be lonely and in need of support. Telephone befriending can provide invaluable support to people who are isolated and at home. The volunteer role can be delivered over the phone at agreed times. Murray Hall delivers the Lottery funded SPARCS service. The aim of the service is to reduce social isolation and loneliness in those over 65 years.
