Can you digitise our beautiful pictures?

by Building Bridges Training CIC

Building Bridges is looking for a volunteer photographer to help us digitise a beautiful collection of full-colour illustrations created by one of our members, who has a learning disability. These drawings will form part of an exciting storytelling project. Once professionally photographed, the images will be used in presentations, on our website, and in a storybook we are developing. What you’ll be doing: • Taking high-resolution, high-quality photographs of original artwork • Ensuring accurate colour representation and clarity • Saving and clearly cataloguing digital files in our Google Drive Approximately two-thirds of the illustrations are already complete, with more being finalised. We are looking for someone who can commit a few hours per week over around six weeks, until all artwork has been photographed. This is a lovely opportunity to support a creative project and help amplify the voice and talent of an artist with a learning disability. Pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Make a difference in children’s lives, be a Panel Member!

by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

Parents express a preference for their child to attend a specific school, but not everyone is successful in securing a place at their chosen school. Everyone refused admission has the right to appeal, which must be considered by an independent appeals panel consisting of three volunteers. This role is ideal for someone who has a passion for education. No qualifications or experience needed as you will receive full training and continuous support. You are not eligible to be a panel member if you have ever been employed by Sandwell MBC or have ever been an elected member for Sandwell MBC. For an inclusive pool of panel members, we want people from all backgrounds with different experiences and skills. As a panel member, you will read the appeal paperwork prior to the appeal hearings which take place using Microsoft Teams. You will participate in the appeal hearing where you will listen to the school’s case as to why they believe they cannot accommodate a further pupil, and parents will explain their appeal case for wanting a place at the school. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of both cases to ensure you have all the information you need to help you make your decision and to help you identify whether an error had been made when the application was processed. Once the appeal has ended, the panel will deliberate the appeal in private in the presence of the clerk and will decide whether to allow or refuse the appeal.
