Here at Sense, we know that it’s not always easy being a young carer, or the sibling of a disabled person. That is why we deliver activities and sessions specifically for young people aged 5-18, who have a caring role for a parent or have a sibling with a disability.
We are looking for volunteers to share their skills and engage groups of young people through fun, interactive, and accessible Zoom workshops. Volunteers will have experience in one (or more) of the following skills, either through study, teaching, running a business, or delivering workshops.
• Arts/drawing
• Crafts/creative projects
• Sports/fitness
• Music
• Graphics/design/animation
• Gaming
• Creative writing
This a great opportunity to utilise your own skills and experience to deliver impactful recreational sessions to siblings and young carers across the country. You do not need to have previous experience working with siblings or young carers, we will provide you with training and ongoing support to equip you for your role.
What your role will involve
• Planning and delivering fun and engaging virtual group workshops on Zoom for young people (at least one per month)
• Preparing resources
• Ensuring workshops are accessible. Training and support will be provided by the team.
• Maintaining good communication with the Siblings and Young Carers team
• Passing on any concerns you have to the staff team
• Building a rapport with the young people on the project and listening to their needs
• Facilitating games, activities and discussions with young people
• Completing relevant training
A charity that has been established for 70 years, Sense has developed an unrivalled depth of knowledge, skills and expertise to help people with a broad range of complex disabilities, and those who are deafblind, learn to communicate and express themselves. We believe that no-one should be isolated or unable to fulfil their potential. We help people to develop the skills to enjoy everyday things like having a conversation, enjoying friendships and living independently.
