After fire, flood or severe weather - help us to help people

by British Red Cross

From making a cup of tea to trekking through snow and sleet to deliver the essentials, British Red Cross works with other organisations to do what’s needed straight away.
As an Emergency Response Volunteer, you will give people the support they need at a time they need it the most.
What you will be doing:
• Respond to emergency call outs in your local area.
• Give emotional support to people and communities affected by an emergency.
• Give practical support such as distributing clothing, food or water after an emergency.
• Tell people where they can get extra support.
• Collaborate with local government or emergency services staff.
Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong.
We want to create an inclusive environment, and promote and spread the power of kindness.
We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us.
We want volunteering to be accessible to everyone. Agreed expenses will be reimbursed.
We are looking for someone who is able to:
• Reach Oldbury fire station within 40 minutes.
• Volunteer at least 24 hours a month (4x 6 hour shifts).
• Attend monthly team meetings in the evening on 1st Wednesday each month.
• Commit for a minimum 12 months after training.
• Be available to undertake approximately 33 hours of required e-learning modules and Zoom training sessions in the first few months of volunteering plus other ongoing service specific training as required.
• Driving is preferable but not essential. If you are driving for this role you should have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK and have access to a vehicle.
• Have access to their own phone and laptop/computer.
