Sandwell Youth Service are looking for volunteers to work alongside our youth work teams to provide fun, personal development and learning opportunities for young people aged 11-19 years and up to 25 for those with additional needs. We provide services and activities across the six towns in a range of settings including youth clubs, our mobile youth buses and through detached and targeted youth work teams.
We reimburse pre-agreed expenses.

Preferred skills

We are looking for passionate people who want to help young people develop their confidence, leadership and teamwork skills whilst having fun and learning new skills. Are you interested in using your communication and other transferable skills to support young people in your local community? Would you like to support youth workers to deliver engaging, fun and informative youth programmes and activities? Youth Work Volunteers work with young people from a wide breadth of backgrounds, ensuring they really feel part of their local community. Volunteers will help young people to strive to be the best they can be. In this role, you will support the delivery of youth work sessions, activities and issue-based work during sessions. As you gain more experience, you can be involved in planning and delivering sessions as part of our youth programmes and activities taking on additional responsibilities such as encouraging and organising for young people to go to events and offsite visits.
The expected commitment is around 3-6 hours per week.

Experience gained

Volunteers will be supported in their role to access youth work training from level 1-3 (depending on availability) to help them develop the skills and confidence in working with young people. They will also attend mandatory training around food hygiene, safeguarding, Prevent, GDPR and Information Governance and In the Line of Fire. There will be other opportunities to gain specific issue-based training e.g. around drugs education, relationships and sexual health, county lines and criminal and sexual exploitation.
