Make a difference to the life of a child in foster care

by Change Grow Live

For many children and young people, living in foster care can be unsettling. Having someone there just for them can make all the difference. That someone could be you.

An Independent Visitor is an adult who meets with a child or young person who is in care, to do a fun activity together. This helps the young person to do what they enjoy and provides them with a positive adult role model. The consistent friendship helps the young person to build self-esteem, confidence, and resilience.
Pre-agreed volunteer expenses are reimbursed , such as personal car mileage and any agreed fees/expenditure from the session with the young person (entrance fees, refreshments, etc).

Preferred skills

We welcome applications from volunteers who are fun, reliable, and enthusiastic. Commitment to the role is essential and we ask for at least 2 years commitment post training. Full training is provided so no previous experience is necessary. An empathetic and caring nature is beneficial.

Experience gained

We believe everyone has the potential to support positive change within people’s lives and for the communities in which we live. Volunteering is an amazing way to give, learn and make a difference. We take volunteering seriously and our valued volunteers play an integral role in our services. Volunteering with us has an impact – and not just on the people you’ll be supporting.

Although you may face challenges when volunteering, we won’t throw you in at the deep end. We’ll help you grow your skills and confidence with comprehensive training and ongoing support and supervision.
