Become a school governor to change young people's lives

by Governors for Schools

Governors for Schools find and place volunteers on school and academy governing boards. Schools do incredible things to educate young people and help them become compassionate and well-rounded citizens. However, they can’t do this job alone.
School governors help to shape school policies and aims, allowing teachers to focus on delivering high-quality educational experiences. Effective governance can positively impact a child’s experience of education.
Apply to become a governor by completing our online form. First, tell us about the skills and expertise you could bring to a school. Then, we’ll assign you a dedicated partnership manager to guide you through the placement process.
We’ll match your skillset to a school in need, so you can be sure you’re having a positive impact and making a difference to children.

Organisation description

Preferred skills

You don’t need to be a parent or education expert to volunteer as a governor. Schools require a combination of hard and soft skills to ensure their boards operate effectively. Whether you’re an experienced professional or embarking on the first stages of your career, we’ll work hard to match you with an appropriate school.

Experience gained

You will develop transferable skills from the wealth of opportunities that being a school governor can offer, benefitting you both professionally, and personally. You have the opportunity to develop experience across a range of skills that you may not otherwise be exposed to in your normal role.
You gain board experience, making board-level decisions, as well as having the opportunity to network and collaborate with others in your community, which can broaden your worldview.
