Provide specialist, clinical care in pre-hospital situations

St John Ambulance need healthcare professionals to provide clinical care, undertaking clinical assessments and attending to patients in pre-hospital situations.

Our professional clinicians mainly work in mobile treatment centres, ambulances or temporary event medical centres. They attend events, such as music festivals and sports matches. There are also opportunities to deploy your skills, or develop new ones, in specialist areas like the Medical Response Team and the Cycle Response Unit.
St John Ambulance’s HCP skillsets are suitable if you are a:

Doctor (GMC registered)
Nurse (NMC registered)
Paramedic (HCPC registered)
Physiotherapist (HCPC registered)
Physician Associate (PAMVR registered)
Nursing Associate (NMC registered)
Podiatrist (HCPC registered)

Organisation description

St John Ambulance is a volunteer powered, charitable organisation dedicated to the teaching of first aid. We support the NHS, provide medical support at public events and administer engaging youth programmes throughout England.

Preferred skills

Healthcare professional with a full, current registration with one of the professions listed above
Ability to communicate effectively verbally with a wide range of people
Strong listening, compassion and empathy skills
Enthusiasm for the work of St John Ambulance and ability to model our values
Ability to work as part of a team
Physically fit for a role which requires moving around an event, and treating people
(including the ability to kneel by a collapsed patient and deliver effective chest
compressions for at least four minutes without stopping)
Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications (optional)
Ability to volunteer flexibly and across geographically dispersed locations (optional).

Experience gained

Top-up training if you would benefit from it, for example in First Aid or Immediate Life Support
The opportunity to be part of a local unit, where you will have ongoing support from peers and further learning & development opportunities
Ongoing support from fellow HCPs to deploy or develop your skills according to your needs and wishes
