Support people over the phone

Sikh Helpline works 24 hours/7 days a week to support extremely vulnerable people over the phone on a national scale. We are in need of call handlers who can offer their time to support a service
user. With the need and calls increased twofold from 2019, we want to ensure we can continue to provide this much needed service.
We need volunteers who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Training will be provided to handle calls.
Help us from home or from our office in West Bromwich.

Organisation description

We are a confidential helpline to support and signpost people with poor mental health issues around
domestic abuse, substance and alcohol abuse, bereavement, relationship issues and bullying.

Preferred skills

We are looking for various expertise such as social workers, counsellors, Website design and social media experience. Be advisors, lawyers, psychiatrists, safeguarding officers, teachers. Confidentiality and sensitivity is needed in this role as well as someone who has good communication and listening skills over the phone. An additional language, especially Punjabi, is an advantage. Understanding of the stigma and cultural barriers in Asian community. Be able to manage call content in an emotionally stable way.

Experience gained

Call handling training will be provided. In the role of regional lead you will manage groups of volunteers. Gain resilience and knowledge of multiple services within communities. An opportunity to directly change and save lives.
