Help us save lives with prevention activities

Help West Midlands Fire Service deliver prevention-based activities to members of the public and vulnerable groups. Educate the community on key safety messages linked to fire, road, home, and personal safety through a variety of activities. Key activities will be:
• Acting as a “Safety Adviser” to delivery key safety messages to young people aged 9-11 around Safeside; a state-of-the-art scenario-based, experiential learning safety complex which provides an innovative, enjoyable learning experience that inspires people to think and act safely.
• Delivering safety presentations to vulnerable groups, such as new arrivals to the country or those who have English as a second language.
• Assisting Fire Stations with open days, community events and local Fire Safety initiatives to promote safety and wellbeing.
• Acting as a Volunteer Fire Safety Tutor to educate young people who have shown an unhealthy interest in fire.

Experience gained

The volunteering enables individuals to gain new skills and experience, and improve existing ones. In-house training is provided, as well as opportunities to attend courses on personal development, such as communication, confidence and resilience, working with others etc. Volunteers can gain an OCN Level 2 in Volunteering accreditation, alongside their activities.
