Join our musical community without barriers!

The Sandwell Inclusive Choir welcomes people of all abilities and their families/ primary carers. The choir celebrates that everyone has their own way of sharing their voice.
We are looking to recruit volunteers to join our supportive, friendly and creative team, dedicated to having fun, empowering others and creating a musical community without barriers. Music abilities are desired but not necessary, we welcome anyone who fits with our vision and wants to develop their inclusive music making skills - training and support can be provided.
Roles include:
Face-to-Face:
• Admin - Welcoming people, signing them in check DBS
• Setup/ Pack down (e.g. chairs/ tables and musical equipment)
• Co-leading - inclusive vocal and multi-sensory music warmups, activities and/ or songs
• 1:1 support - Often with PMLD members supporting musical engagement in multi-sensory ways and often using music tech (e.g. iPads and apps such as ThumbJam)
• Refreshments Team - Offering tea, coffee and cakes at the end to choir members
• General Participation – Joining in with activities (this can include singing or instrument playing) and sharing your enthusiasm and warmth, welcoming energy
Online:
• Admin – Name changing on Zoom, muting/ unmuting,
• Co-leading – inclusive vocal and multi-sensory music warmups, activities and/ or songs
• General Participation – Joining in with activities and sharing your enthusiasm and warmth, welcoming energy.

At Soundabout, we believe that everybody deserves to have a voice. We use sound to enable people with learning disabilities to express themselves, connect with others, and feel the warmth of music.

Please get in touch to discuss any access requirements. Sandwell Inclusive Choir welcomes people of all abilities and their families/ primary carers. There is ramp access and an accessible toilet at the venue.

Preferred skills

Music abilities are desired but not necessary, we welcome anyone who fits with our vision and wants to develop their inclusive music making skills. Volunteers with skills and experience in inclusive music making would support the Disabled choir members on a 1-2-1 basis.

Experience gained

Volunteers will gain experience of inclusive music leadership and working with young people with disabilities.
Soundabout is a national charity with an excellent reputation for offering inclusive music opportunities for those with complex disabilities.
